Vegan Food: Seitan Vegan Chicken Recipe.

Seitan, also known as wheat gluten, is a popular protein alternative for vegans and vegetarians. It has a chewy, meat-like texture and can be flavored and shaped to resemble different types of meat, including chicken. 

Here is a recipe for vegan seitan "chicken" that you can try at home:


1 cup vital wheat gluten

1/4 cup nutritional yeast

1 tsp paprika

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp onion powder

1/2 tsp salt

1/4 tsp black pepper

1 cup water

2 tbsp soy sauce

2 tbsp vegetable broth


1. In a medium bowl, mix together the vital wheat gluten, nutritional yeast, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.

2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the water, soy sauce, and vegetable broth.

3. Pour the wet mixture into the dry mixture and stir until a dough forms. Knead the dough for a few minutes until it becomes elastic.

4. Divide the dough into 4 equal pieces and shape them into chicken-like pieces (or any other shape you desire).

5. Bring a pot of water to a boil and carefully place the seitan pieces into the water. Reduce the heat to a simmer and cook for 45 minutes, turning the pieces occasionally.

6. Remove the seitan from the pot and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing or shredding.

You can use the seitan "chicken" in any recipe that calls for cooked chicken. You can also marinate it in your favorite sauces or seasonings before cooking to add extra flavor. Enjoy!
